Amine-based solvents are the best available technology for CO2 capture from industrial gases. This technology is currently operational at various sites. However, it needs to be carefully designed so that emissions of amines and ammonia are controlled. SCOPE is a three-years funded project that aims to support the development of emission control technologies and enable the harmonization of regulations for amine-based CO2 capture facilities.
SCOPE is a collaboration of 24 participants from Norway, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, India and the United States. Several pilot campaigns and new experimental data are produced in this project.
Hovyu’s tasks are:
- Developing a thermodynamic model for calculating the solvent properties the two most advanced open CO2 capture solvents: 30 wt.% monoethanolamine (MEA) and CESAR1.
- Design and perform cost estimations of a capture plant in a refinery, including the advanced emission control technologies selected within the project
